 CAN STRESS CAUSES ULCER?

Stress alone does not directly cause ulcers, but it can contribute to them in several ways:

1.     Exacerbation of Existing Ulcers: Stress can worsen symptoms of an existing ulcer by increasing stomach acid production, which can further irritate the ulcerated area

2.     Impact on Immune Function: Chronic stress can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections like H. pylori, which is a major cause of ulcers.

3.     Lifestyle Factors Linked to Stress: People under stress may be more likely to smoke, consume alcohol, or take NSAIDs, all of which can weaken the stomach lining and increase ulcer risk.

4.     Stress-Induced Gastritis: While not technically an ulcer, stress can lead to gastritis, or inflammation of the stomach lining. This condition can create ulcer-like symptoms and increase the risk of developing an actual ulcer if left untreated.

In short, stress doesn’t directly cause ulcers, but it can make the digestive system more vulnerable, particularly if other risk factors are present.
